Design Culture (Negotiating Visual Identity)

Mark Zuckerberg had 'metaverse' in mind when he concocted the visual identity of meta. Some people spoke sense into him and convinced him to be more 'pluriversal' in his approach. So he invited various communities to make their own version of meta such that their community concerns are reflected in the visual identity. The following indigenous communities from various parts of India were also invited. These communities hired each of your group as designers to design their Visual identity.

Group 1: Lambadi

Group 2: Bhil

Group 3: Munda

Group 4: Nyishi

Group 5: Gond

Group 6: Khasi

Group 7: Santhal

Group 8: Kodava

Group 9: Angami Nagas

Group 10: Toda

The Process

Step: 1 As a team we decided to divide ourselves in two groups. One set did the visual research and another did research about the tribe.
Step: 2 Compile and discuss what we find. Share our first ideas/rough sketches with each other based off the research.
Step: 3 Work on separate iterations based on the initial sketches. 1. Would be based on the traditional 'M' letter 2. Would be based on the current Meta logo
Step: 4 Share feedback and improve our designs.
Step: 5 Select the final logo and refine it based on our discussions and design considerations.

Brief summary of Gond history

Primarily from Madhya Pradesh but also found in Andhra, Chhattisgraph, and Odisha. One of the largest tribes in India and they have 3 subsections within them. Derived its name from the word "Kond" meaning 'green mountain'. They consider themselves children of nature. The Gond people believe that every element of nature, be it the hills, the sky or the trees, is inhabited by a spirit. Recreating the forms of nature therefore is done with reverence and worship of their sacred essence.

Brief Visual Research and Observations

Organic elements such as birds, animals, trees, flowers, etc. Geometric shapes are generally seen within the organic designs such as dots, lines, dashes, fish scales and sometimes even tribal motifs are found in this form of art. Bright and vibrant are generally seen in art produced by the Gond tribe.
